HAVAT GILAD, West Bank - Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday rejected President Barack Obama's demand for a freeze on West Bank Jewish settlement construction, but his government's move to dismantle some squatter camps set off a rampage by Jewish settlers against Palestinians.

It was a violent reminder that Netanyahu is caught between his own hard-line supporters and Israel's vital relationship with Washington. So far, Netanyahu has appeared sympathetic to the settlers, but protests over his limited West Bank policy spread as far as Jerusalem.

On Monday, Netanyahu briefed the Israeli parliament's Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee about his recent meeting with Obama. The American president and his secretary of state, Hillary Rodham Clinton, have demanded that Israel halt all settlement construction, including expansion to accommodate what Israel calls "natural growth" of settlements.

SEOUL, South Korea — North Korea announced on Monday it had successfully conducted its second nuclear test, defying international warnings and drastically raising the stakes in a global effort to get the recalcitrant Communist state to give up its nuclear weapons program.

The North’s official news agency, KCNA, said the country had conducted an “underground” nuclear test.

The announcement came moments after the South Korean government’s geological sensors had detected an artificially triggered tremor emanating from Kilju, northeast North Korea, said Lee Dong-kwan, spokesman of the office of President Lee Myung-bak of South Korea.

Give Obama a Chance

Americans wanted change so bad they were willing to elect a president with the middle name Hussein, the name of the tyrant we attacked and killed, Saddam Hussein.

If a nation wants change that bad, we can know for a fact we are fed up with false hope and unfulfilled promises.

We only hope Barack Obama will bring the necessary change America needs to bring us back from the loss of respect we have suffered the past eight years.

Obama is less than 100 days in office and many people are ready to evaluate him. Give President Obama a chance, give him time and give him your respect. If you fail to do this, you are unpatriotic and fail to realize how much we really need change from the damage already created.
